The Project “The time in-between” is an active reflection on the working methods used for my last two dance creations to then feed the artistic and conceptual development for my up-coming creation(s).
During the process I will objectively review my work, critically analyze my findings through a subjective perspective (how do I feel as an artist?) and explore artistically how I can translate my findings into my artistic work.

As artists and creators, I believe our work not only lies within the active creation but also within actively reflecting in the time in-between creation processes. In allowing space for this contemplation, we are able to see more clearly and work more consciously towards creating our artistic visions.
This project is about continuing to search the essence of my artistic work. As composer Aaron Copland said, “I felt that it was worth the effort to see if I couldn't say what I had to say in the simplest possible terms."

For the Forum for Improvised Music and Dance (FIM) Basel, Quizzical Körper dance collective proposes a 35-minute ¨Instant Composition¨ performance with three dancers.

Quizzical Körper has been realizing real-time compositions for several years, each with a specific theme. The collective strives to preserve the qualities, tools and openness of pure improvisation while addressing a theme.

The theme for the forum is the Amazon Rainforest. Irene Carreño, Andrea Lagos and Rebecca Mary Narum take the sound tapestry of the rainforest as a source of inspiration for their ¨Timing¨ use, as well as the influence of elements such as the wildness and abstractions of nature for their dance creation.

Thus, they allow the whole composition to emerge and by doing so they allow themselves and those present to be surprised.

Moving Voices -
TakeHeart Residency
February-March 2022
"Moving Voices" is a movement research that explores the deep emotional power of music on people and its expression through movement.

How can we as dancers, choreographers and movement composers create the same emotional impact? How can we use what we know about music to create a dance piece that has that physical impact on the audience?

The research takes an interdisciplinary approach that includes both theoretical studies as well as practical research in the fields of music and movement.

The Movement of Music
Research: August-December 2021
"The Movement of Music" is an artistic research in the field of contemporary dance. It deals with the unique physical effect that music has on the human body.

The way movement - the body - and music - sound - are deeply and intimately connected. The power of music to manipulate us emotionally and how we experience intense feelings through it.
In this research, Rebecca Mary explores how composers play with the power of music to create different emotional atmospheres. And how this can be translated into movement. Into a visible expression of the music through a moving body.

This research was funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts.

Contemporary Dance Basics
~ intensive course ~
Wednesdays & Fridays from 18:30-20:00
from December 1-15th, 2021
Contemporary dance is all about finding the most efficient way to move with your body, so that whether you are rolling on the floor or jumping high up in the sky, you do it with grace and ease.

In this class we will bring the basics into our bodies. The class will focus on movement principles. The point where precision meets freedom and physicality meets expression.

We will zoom into different movement qualities, elements and pathways found within the body as a base to enter into technical exercises and choreographies.

Starting with a warm-up and improvisational exercises to ground the body and open the senses, an emphasis will be placed on our body’s connection with floor as well as awareness of their pelvis as the motor for movement. We will move on to bring this knowledge into technical exercises and choreographic phrases.

The goal is to attain a strong intuitive awareness of our body and explore different physical forms of expression as a means to move with both precision and freedom. It will be physical, ornamental, unpredictable and sensual.

Drinking Air
Performance:
When: November 9, 2019
Where: onCe Festival Für Improvisation
Freiburg
“Drinking Air” is an Instant Composition piece performed by Quizzical Körper in collaboration with violinist Harald Kimmig. The main concept is synesthesia – the ability to hear colors, see sounds or taste shapes.
One musician and three dancers compose instantaneously working with synesthetic abilities: The dancers attempt to see, feel and embody the sounds; the musician intends to hear, feel and transcribe the movement.
In this piece, dance and music are in a constant dialogue – sometimes in cooperation, sometimes in conflict – to create a multidimensional landscape which transcends our senses.
